Perfect size for little hands!
My daughter is almost 10 months old and loves to grab everything. Though she is still in the prime of developing her fine motor skills, this puzzle is PERFECT for her size and current abilities. The shapes come up about 0.5-1 inch off of the board, which gives her a great amount of the puzzle piece to grasp with just one hand. Since the pieces are wooden, they provide a nice amount of weight that is not too heavy for her to pick up, but definitely helps her get a better sense of the different weight of things. The board is also wooden, so she likes to clack the animals pieces back down on the board to make noise. I also like that these pieces do not have wooden pegs on them that could potentially be a choking hazard and picking up the different shaped animals also gives her better sensory play. Great quality puzzle for a steal of a price!

Favorite toy holds up great
My son is 16 months old and his favorite song is "Old MacDonald Had a Farm." I couldn't resist getting this puzzle. Unfortunately, at his age, he's not too interested in puzzles. He is interested in the puzzle pieces, however. His favorite is the cow which he carries everywhere---bath, meals, pool. We know own two separate sets so he never loses any (or chucks it in the garbage which he has done though thankfully he confessed). The puzzle pieces stand up to some pretty heavy wear and tear though the ones that have gotten wet repeatedly have a little less paint. I've never seen him so attached to any other toy. At the same time, I bought Melissa & Doug Zoo Animals Sound Puzzle but the noises actually scared the living daylights out of him. Unlike some of the other reviewers, I did receive ones that were actually painted. Update: A month later and he loves to put the puzzle pieces in their slots! It's the gift that keeps on giving.

Fun and Educational. Great Puzzle & Block Toy
Great puzzle and block toy! Child enjoys intermixing these farm animals with those from the Pets Wooden Chunky Puzzle. The blocks are painted on all sides and can stand up outside of the puzzle. Educational and fun!

best purchase ever
my toddler can play llike 10 times a day with this and never gets bored! I try to put her on the table where she eats, so she can be in her place and eating. She learned the animal's names and sounds (of course me teaching her) but this was really helpful! like they're made of wood, they can endure a pitch to the floor when she can't make the animal fit lol. Overall, really recommend.

Love love love this puzzle
My toddler loves this puzzle and so do I! The pieces are nice and big. She can put it together without much struggle and also play with the little animals too. They stand up very nicely. It's sturdy too. She's thrown the pieces and the paint is holding up nicely. We're very happy with our purchase!

Old MacDonald would approve of this puzzle
This is a very satisfying puzzle for little ones -- 2-3 years old to start and can continue longer. The animals are easy for little hands, and you can also stand the animals up and play with them outside the puzzle. As I have suggested before, think of a label for each of these M&D puzzles and use a sharpie to label the back...because these puzzles are all made a like and Mom might need help putting pieces back when the puzzles get tipped.

Great for toddlers!
I have been searching for good puzzles for toddlers. I am a developmental specialist and work with infants and toddlers with special needs. I look for easy puzzles that have pieces that are easy for toddlers to pick up. I have always loved Melissa & Doug puzzles because they are always so well made and typically very age appropriate. I need puzzles that are sturdy and hold up well. I toss them in bags and in my trunk so they have to be able to take a good beating. When this puzzle arrived, I was beyond excited. Here are the things that I really like about this puzzle and using it for toddlers: - The puzzle has bright colors. This is great when using with young children to keep their attention. - When you take the puzzle piece out, it has the same picture underneath. This makes it easier for toddlers to figure out where the piece goes. - The pieces are thick chunky pieces so even though it doesn't have the little knobs on top, small, uncoordinated hands can get them in and out. - The entire puzzle piece is painted so that there is not any raw wood showing. - The animals are the colors of real animals. I have too many puzzles and kids' books that have animals all crazy colors. At this age, it's important that the animals are as realistic as possible. The animals on this puzzle are the colors that real ones would be (pig is pink, sheep is white, etc...). I have been using this a ton and the kids really seem to love it. I can use it to not only work on the fine motor skill of putting the puzzle piece in but also the cognitive skill of matching the animals, the language skill of learning animals sounds, names and colors. There is just so much I can do with this puzzle with really young children and ones with delays.

This is a great tool for engaging the oil ones and labeling
This is a great tool for engaging the oil ones and labeling. Its also good for teaching hand eye coordination and simple commands like turn the car around, pick up, put on and clean up time. I picked up a few of these puzzles and I like that durability of the wood pieces and the strength of the board itself. The images are applied and not painted to the blocks. I've had these for about 14 months and I've seen no lifting or peeling. The twins just turned 3 a few months ago and there were a favorite toy option for them. Sometimes, I had to send them to nap with their favorite pieces. I have used a damp paper towel to clean stains. I'm more than satisfied. I purchased the farm animals, shapes, zoo animals and construction sight.

Durable, long term toy investment
I got this puzzle on a lightning deal so the price was just perfect. I had had my eyes on this series of puzzles for a while now so I was thrilled to see them featured! I was debating between the peg puzzles and the chunky puzzles but ultimately decided on the chunky for a few reasons: -Though more expensive, the thicker pieces can hold up to more beatings -Pieces are thick enough to stand on their own so can double as wooden "imaginary play" pieces (we use them with blocks) -Thicker pieces are easier for little hands to grab onto- as opposed to grabbing onto the tiny pegs. I know Melissa and Doug sells puzzles with large knobs, but I felt my son would outgrow those too quickly and this way I would get the most use for my money. I love the bold colors of the farm animals, their smiling faces, and I love that the pieces have the right amount of weight to them. Unlike some of the other Melissa and Doug toys, these don't seem to just have a sticker on the front that can get peeled off (or sucked off since at this age everything ends up in the mouth. The edges of the pieces are painted and smooth. In terms of age, I love that such a wide range of ages can get use out of them. I got these for my son when he was 9 months old, so obviously he was a bit young to be assembling the puzzle. At first he just took the pieces out from their places and now, at 11 months we go through and practice animal sounds. Eventually, he'll be able to do the puzzle himself. (Note: I know the recommended age for this product is 2+ years. Use your own discretion as a parent to make the right choice for your child)

Great learning puzzle
I love this puzzle. My daughter's speech therapist brings it with her when she has her visits. My daughter loves doing it over and over again and she has gotten so good at it. The animal pieces are thicker than the board so they stick out making it easy for those little hands to pick them up. I had to order one because it makes me so happy to see my daughter doing so well with it.
